Tama Guitar Serial Numbers

  1. Very Rare 1974 Tama 3555 Dreadnought Made in Japan (D28 Killer!) Solid Spruce w/Rosewd, Killer Build. Amazing neck angle, and neck Quality she is Straight with Sweet-N-Low action with saddle left. Like it was made Yesterday. The tops on these were Mainly Bear claw Spruce, this one doesn't show a whole lot, but it is a Bearclaw top.
  2. Unfortunately, Tama does not publish a serial number identification guide. I did find a site which features the Tama catalogs and includes specs for each Superstar set. Please see: Tama Catalogs Scroll down to the second catalog and click on the first panel, then click to enlarge the specs.
  3. Serial numbers on Yamaha guitars repeat every ten years due to the way they are formed. The first letter indicates the last digit of the year of production. (Their numbering system began with “H” for 1.) The second letter indicates the month. The first two numbers indicate the day of the month.

It not only sounds great but looks better than any guitar i have ever seen. I also would like to know what collectors think its value is.

    Fender's production methods from the early fifties had the effect the numbers may not be consecutive. Also overlap of serial numbers and dates come with regularity. Where to find the serial number The serial numbers on the guitar are provided through the years on various places. I think the Tama formula of subtracting 10 from the serial numbers only works for the Starclassic maple. I think i've seen photos of your kit and they do seem to be accel sizes. If they're not, it doesn't necessarily mean they're not all birch.
